The Herb Lyceum
A cozy, bright celebration filled with texture, color, and floral magic in Massachusetts
Judy and Kevin's wedding at the Herb Lyceum in Groton, Massachusetts, was the definition of whimsical garden charm. With a color palette of soft neutrals, lush greens, and bright pops of periwinkle, lilac, and plum, their celebration felt intimate, joyful, and effortlessly romantic.
As a Massachusetts wedding florist, we love when couples bring a vision that's full of personality - and Judy and Kevin did just that.
A Magical Massachusetts Venue: The Herb Lyceum
Tucked away in Groton, The Herb Lyceum at Gilson's is one of New England's most beloved hidden gem wedding venues. Surrounded by herb gardens, tall trees, and winding paths, the property offers a warm and rustic feel while maintaining a refined elegance. It's the perfect choice for couples looking for a nature-inspired wedding in Massachusetts with both indoor and outdoor spaces.
We've been lucky to design for many estate and garden weddings, but there's something really special and cozy about celebrations at The Herb Lyceum. It's intimate without being small, and its natural beauty provides an ideal backdrop for floral design that leans into texture, movement, and seasonal blooms.
A Whimsical Floral Design in Green & Purple
Judy described her vision as whimsical and bright - and we were all in! We added our signature style, going for an airy, playful, and textural look.
We designed with:
- Delphinium, to bring in that romantic periwinkle tone
- Queen Anne's lace and sweet pea, adding softness and motion
- Anemones, with their striking centers and vivid contrast
- Hydrangeas and greenery to add lush texture, woodland magic, and dimension
Greens were central to the design , offering a grounded, organic base that let the brighter purple tones shine. The mix of textures and palette created a whimsical, almost fairytale-like setting with a modern edge. The overall feeling was joyful, but elevated.
Thoughtful Touches and Meaningful Moments
Judy and Kevin made their day feel personal in all the best ways. One moment that stood out was seeing them walk down the aisle together - a beautiful symbol of partnership and equality.
Another faorite detail? Guests were greeted with lavender lemonade as they arrived, a nod to the garden setting and a warm welcome on a summer day. These types of small, intentional choices really shape the guest experience and make the celebration memorable.
Their reception was held under a canopy of trees and stars, with soft lighting, cozy seating, and garden-to-table fare that echoed the venue's roots.
Why We Love Designing at The Herb Lyceum
As a local florist specializing in weddings at The Herb Lyceum and other Massachusetts garden venues, we love the creative freedom that this space allows. The natural textures, architectural elements, and lush landscape invite florals that feel alive - like they are growing right where they are placed.
From ceremony arbors to potted plants, we can use the space in imaginative ways while staying true to the venue's romantic garden elegance that contrasts against the rustic feel of a working greenhouse.
If you're planning a wedding at The Herb Lyceum or another garden venue in Massachusetts, we're here to bring your floral vision to life in a way that feels deeply personal, natural and romantic.
Planning a Garden Wedding in Massachusetts? Here Are a Few Floral Tips:
1. Let your Surroundings inspire your color palette.
Garden venues like the Herb Lyceum are full of green, so build your palette with soft neutrals and strategic color pops that enhance, not compete.
2. Incorporate Texture and Movement.
Use blooms like sweet pea, Queen Anne's lace, and wild greenery to create an efortless, lived-in look that feels natural to the space.
3. Use Every Surface.
Arbors, tree branches, tables, greenhouse ceiling, and railings are opportunities for hanging florals, moss, or greenery that add dimension and whimsy.
4. Consider Scent.
Herbs like lavender, mint, or rosemary can add fragrance to your bouquets and tabel arrangements - and feel right at home at a venue like this.

Judy and Kevin's day was full of joy, beauty, and intention - from the lavender lemonade to the magical florals woven into every corner of the Herb Lyceum grounds. It was an honor to design for such a sweet couple in one of our favorite Massachusetts venues.
